Collaborative work
For this mural, I was chosen to be the artist for Seward Resdesign’s 50th anniversary block party. Seward Redesign provides comprehensive community development services including housing, infrastructure advocacy, business development for the Seward neighborhood.
I held listening sessions with residents of Seward about what they want to see in the future of their neighborhood. Things that stood out were more pedestrian and bike riding on streets, hence the title “open streets”. I made a design, went through the editing process with contributors, then I outlined the mural and painted it in with community members during the block party

This ground mural was painted for Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District’s Water Fest on Lake Phalen. I was chosen by Friends of the Mississippi to engage the community with a series of hearing sessions and workshops to design a mural that engages people to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed, in this case, Lake Phalen. I met with many school classes, youth groups, and the general public of East St. Paul, discussing what they love about Lake Phalen and the importance of it in their community. Together we painted the image on a concrete bridge over Lake Phalen.
These two I-spy murals were created during an after school class with 4th and 5th grade students. I led the class myself, teaching mural significance and history, choosing a theme with the students, workshopping drawing and design exercises, and finally all painting the mural together.
The murals were made to go on either side of a staircase in the school’s rotunda. In this photo I edited out the stairs so you can just see the murals. The students chose the theme of making the murals like I-spy scenes, one taking place in space and one taking place in a forest, hence the name “Space Forest.” We designed it together, I outlined it, and the students painted it. We painted it on polytab cloth, which then can be installed on a wall like permanent wallpaper. The class met once a week for 3 months.

This storm drain mural was designed and painted in collaboration with Geno Okuk and middle school students from Zanewood Recreation Center, as a part of a Master Water Steward capstone project. We received money from the city of Brooklyn Park to pay the youth artists to help us design and paint the storm drain to raise awareness of where the storm drains lead, and why we need to keep it clean.
This mural was designed and painted in collaboration with Alec Lossiah for the Gallery on Cedar, and event space in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in Minneapolis. We painted it live during a benefit show for the Brian Coyle Center.
This mural was designed in collaboration with Samie Johnson for Permaculture Action Day at Waite House in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. During this one-day event community members created permaculture gardening systems for the community garden at Waite House, which provides food for many people in the area. We painted a mural that reflected the gardening systems they built. We outlined the mural and everyone painted it together as part of the event. It was painted on plywood boards and is now hanging in the cafeteria that serves free meals to community members in need daily.
